Boo's Story
Boo was known as K-35B from August 20, 2007 until she went to the AWS in Kennebunk, ME. She had sarcoptic mange, giardia, very bad teeth, cocidea, and was heavily pregnant. The shelter named her Cybil and she was afraid of everything, everyone and had never seen the light of day outside of the crate she had lived in for the first 4 years of her life.
Boo was moved into the AWS on December 26, 2007 and had a litter of 10 puppies, the last time she would ever have to do that again. The shelter was able to find out that Boo had been having a litter of puppies every 6 months from the time she was able to first be bread. The AWS had her spayed and also had her teeth cleaned while she was with them. They worked on socializing her and helping her to be use to human touch as well as everything else she had never experienced for the 4 years of her life.
On January 4, 2008 I went to the shelter looking for a small dog. “Cybil” , as she was known than, was in a kennel with another little dog, but she was hiding in the corner, wide eyed and scared. Her Kennel mate was jumping up to see anyone who might be walking by and I looked in the kennel and only saw the scared little girl in the back corner. I almost kept walking, but my heart kept bringing me right back to that kennel. We asked to see her and they tried to tell us all the bad things about “Cybil”. I wasn't hearing any of it. They took us to a room and said they would bring her right in. Boo was scared to death of a leash, of walking, of being outside of that kennel. I fell in love with her and knew she was going to be mine.
We started the adoption procedures and on January 5, 2008 she was coming home to her “FOREVER HOME”! I will never forget that first walk to the car, she was so scared. I had to pick her up and put her in and of course she peed all over me. I didn't care, I was going to save this dog, she would never see another crate, or be hurt by anyone again.
Our first night in a new house was so sad and scary for her. We renamed her BOO because she was seriously afraid of everything. I slept on the floor next to her, she would run if you even tried to touch her. Her eyes were little pupils and mostly white with fear. I will never forget the first time taken her outside so she could go to the bathroom, a small black bird flew over her head and she cowered down like it was some huge thing going to kill her, she just laid there whimpering and I just sat there and cried. I couldn't even imagine being so afraid. My poor little baby was going to need a lot of TLC and I will tell you there were many long days and nights I was ready to throw in the towel and say “forget it she is never going to be a real dog.”
4 YEARS LATER
The date is May 3, 2012 and well we have come a long way! Boo and I have been through a lot together in 4 years. Many tears have been shed, we have moved 3 times, Boo has a new sister, her name is Riley and she is a Black Lab, she also has a new daddy because mommy finally found her soulmate and got married in September 2010.
Boo lives in Scarborough Maine on the marsh and is a “REAL” dog now. She plays with Riley or us, she gets in the trash, she takes food from your hand , she chases the grand kids, and barks and demands attention.
She still has her little moments of insecurity but today is 97% a “REAL” dog. She also has some health issues due to having so many litters of puppies and not having a good start to life. She has to take 2 pills a day due to being unable to control her bladder. Her teeth are still bad and she needs them cleaned and her food softened. She has to be groomed regularly because she is a little deformed from having so many litters and is unable to keep her backside clean. She also is now 8 years old and suffers from arthritis. But she is happy and loving life to the end of her days.
