The Portsmouth Police Department is investigating an attempted kidnapping and armed robbery that occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. this afternoon. A female subject drove her vehicle into the parking lot of the Ocean State Job Lot on Woodbury Ave. An unknown black male subject who appeared to be in his late teens to early twenties, with a smooth round face and dressed in baggy clothes, to include a distinctive old puffy ripped jacket (picture attached), displayed a semi-automatic hand gun and demanded the woman get back into her car. The victim in this case offered money, but the suspect refused and demanded that she get back into the car. The suspect then forced his way into the car. At this time the victim was able to escape from the car and ran across the parking lot. The suspect then ran from the vehicle as well headed across the parking lot in the direction of the Shaw’s plaza on Durgin Lane. At that point police believe he entered the woods between the plaza and Gosling Meadows neighborhood.
With the assistance of a police K-9, police searched the immediate area and tracked the suspect to the Gosling Meadows neighborhood.
At this time, police are continuing to investigate today’s incident. If anyone saw a suspect fitting the description on foot in the area of Woodbury Avenue’s Ocean State Job Lot, down to the area of Gosling road they are encouraged to contact the police. The suspect was not known to the victim.
Due to the circumstances surrounding this incident, this suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
