Unicorns, Grooming, and Comedy.... Operation Blog Improv is Underway | Weird
Title (Max 100 Characters)
I think the title of this blog says it all. We got some great blog topics, a few that I have no problem telling a few stories about and others that are intriguing and some that are just so bizarre I don't even know what to say. Now this blog improv scheme is still in the works, so the way I approach this now may not be the same as the next time. Tonight I thought we would start out with a bang and I would hit a few of the suggested topics. So sit back, relax, maybe even grab a snack, and enjoy a little slice of life.
comedy- I'm going to start off with the one of the suggestions that intrigued me the most, and unfortunately know the least amount on. I got a suggestion on talking about underground comedy in Maine, and how much they have accomplished. Now besides The Comedy Connection in Portland, which is amazing but I know doesn't probably qualify as 'underground comedy,' I haven't been to any underground comedy events, however I've heard great things. I have had friends who have gone to café's and restaurants where they have seen comedians that they absolutely rave about. In many cities they have underground comedy festivals, but unfortunately the all knowing and powerful google couldn't find any in Maine when I searched "underground comedy in Maine." So if anyone knows of any, do share! Even though I don't know the most about this topic, I do appreciate the art of comedy and think it's vital to what gives Maine such a diverse and unique art scene.
Unicorns- Now as for the Unicorns and gentlemen pig farming topics. I'm not gonna lie, unicorns have always scared me, and gentlemen pig farming.... yeah I got nothing on that. :=)
As for boating... that is a super special topic to me. It's my passion, it's what I dream about, and being on the ocean even if it is just the Casco Bay ferry line in mid winter is my happy place. I'm going to save the boating topic for another day because for that I have some really fun pics I want to share with you all that sum up why it's so special to me.
Grooming- Male grooming. I'm going to mix grooming with appearance/style. Now i'm going to be honest, I always dreamed as a little little kid of having a job one day where I got to wear a suit every day to work. My first dreams as a kid were to own a hotel like, 'The Donald.' I always liked the smell of nice hotels, I think that's where that whole love of hotels came from. Random and weird I know.
When I was around 8 years-old I began watching what at the time was Live With Regis and Kathy Lee. Regis isn't only the best story teller in the world, but I would argue best dressed. After admiring how he can tell a good story, and of course all the awesome suits he wears, I thought "ah ha! I'll go into broadcast television!"
Let me tell you something, the suits you see the anchors and hosts wear on TV come right off when the camera turns off. Whether you see David Letterman on the tonight show, Regis Philbin on his morning show, or yes even your local incredible anchors at NEWS CENTER, the suit jackets are whipped off and some will even change into Jeans and a cozy sweatshirt. Imagine how incredibly embarrassed I was when I started my internship a little over a year ago and showed up to my first few weeks in a full suit. Ted the assignment desk manager said to me once, "Hey Travolta!" Of course referring to the movie Saturday Night Fever. All in good fun.
Every now and then I still wear my suit to work, but for the most part I go semi-casual. And actually if your wondering what my regular attire looks like, the photo taken above is me right after getting out of work. Nothing too over the top. You've Got to be comfortable when hauling camera equipment around.
Whew. So there ya have it. Blog improv. Hopefully I've given you a little piece of mindless cyber space where you can simply relax and enjoy a little slice of life. Now if you want to join the conversation you need to make a WCSH6 account on the WCSH main website, not the Around Town site. Please do! I'd love to hear from more people. Post a comment below of a topic. It can be about anything, school, questions for me/about me, entertainment, news, something you've seen/heard, it can really be about anything. Also if you have suggestions of how you would like to see a regular blog, I welcome it all, after all this is a place for YOU. The purpose of this is to be something fun, and something to start a conversation. I call it interactive blogging. Each day I'll pick a few comments or sometimes just one, and i'll talk about it in a daily blog. Thanks all! Hope you enjoy other Around Town blogs while you're here.
