Governor's Tea @ the Blaine House in Augusta

Governor's Tea @ the Blaine House in Augusta
On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, Governor Paul Lepage and the United Bikers of Maine will be celebrating Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month. The theme for this year is "Did You See Me". Distracted driving has become a major hazard to motorcyclists but also bicycles, pediatricians and other vehicles.   Lets step up the awareness of distracted drivers and make our highways a safer place to travel.   http://www.ubm-usa.org/

Alpha One-Adaptive Driving Education Fundraiser

Alpha One-Adaptive Driving Education Fundraiser

Alpha One is launching our first fundraising initiative to enhance our Adaptive Driving Education program and we are looking for your help.

This program is one of our oldest, and has been offering driver evaluation, assistive driving technology consultation and driver education and training since the early ‘80s. The ADE Program has helped hundreds of Maine consumers to become licensed drivers and enjoy the freedom of mobility

Our goal is to lower the overall cost of delivering this valuable service to Maine people who want to get back on the road again, by soliciting support from individuals and businesses who share our desire to help others remain independent.

Donations from foundations and individuals will provide for the purchase and adaptation of a new van and the operation of the program over the next five years.

17th ANNUAL EVENT ASKS 'WHAT'S YOUR MPG'

Commuters who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bike, walk or telecommute May 16 through 20 can double their miles per gallon – or better. With high gas prices hitting commuters hard in the pocketbook this spring, Commute Another Way Week is urging employers and commuters to work together to raise their MPG – and save a bundle on their daily commute.

“This is the 17th year we’ve held this event, and one thing that never stops drawing people in is the message about how much you can save when you drive alone to work less frequently,” says event organizer Carey Kish of the GO MAINE program.

The purpose of Commute Another Way Week is to let help Maine commuters learn more about carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking or riding transit, teleworking and other low-cost alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle.

“REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS” ISSUED FOR MEMORIAL BRIDGE

“DESIGN-BUILD” REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN PORTSMOUTH, NH - KITTERY, ME
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) and the Maine Department of Transportation have issued a “Request for Qualifications” (RFQ) for
companies and/or design teams interested in wishing to submit proposals to design and construct the Memorial Bridge replacement project through a design-build contract.
The RFQ can be found on the NHDOT website at the following link: http://www.nh.gov/dot/projects/portsmouthkittery13678f/index.htm
RFQ submissions are due by March 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm
Under the design-build approach, design and construction aspects of a project are contracted by a single entity.  The result is an overlap of the design and construction
phases that aims at cost efficiencies and accelerating the completion of the project.
