Ogunquit offers a vacation to those affected by Sandy | News
OGUNQUIT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Businesses in Ogunquit are reaching out to those affected by Sandy, offering 50 families a 5-day stay at local inns with food, transportation and and entertainment included.
The Chamber of Commerce has lined up more than a dozen inns, 10 restaurants and close to 20 other business owners, willing to help families get away next week.
The chamber was hoping to identify needy families through the Red Cross, but the Red Cross doesn't do that kind of work, so now they're trying to find people in need through the government and other resources.
Chamber president Karen Arel said, "When you look at Rockaway, you look at Breezy Point, they have nothing. Those are the families that we're reaching out to. If they're within earshot, if someone who's listening to this newscast knows somebody, those are the people we're trying to reach."
Businesses also hope to put together care packages with things that the families who visit need to get back on their feet.
If you can help or know someone who needs help, you can contact the chamber at (207) 646-1279 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
