The 113th Christmas Bird Count

The 113th Christmas Bird Count

The 113th Christmas Bird Count will take place from December 14, 2012 through January 5, 2013. Since the Christmas Bird Count began over a century ago, it has relied on the dedication and commitment of volunteer citizen scientists. We volunteers have replaced the hunters of old. We count birds and you’re invited to join us. In other words, it all starts with you! And you are invited to participate this year in the 113th Christmas Bird Counts (CBC). Two Christmas Bird Counts are held in York County ,the York County CBC on Monday the 17th and Biddeford/Kennebunkport CBC on Sunday the 30st.

Each count covers the area within a designated 15 mile diameter circle. Teams of birders search sections of the circle area tallying the total number of birds seen within the circle. The York County Count extends from Moody Beach to Fort Foster where last year we found 87 species.

Night In Bethlehem

Night In Bethlehem

Bethlehem Comes to Wells

What would it be like to go back to the 1st century and visit Bethlehem as it was on the night Jesus was born? The streets of the Bethlehem village were teeming with beggars, soldiers, lepers and even tax collectors. Various shops offer their wares and they offer you an opportunity to learn to do the craft of each shopkeeper. Then the wise men beckon you to follow them to Herod’s palace. There is excitement and mystery in the air as you hear about a new king, a savior who has been born. Where is He? Will you see Him that night? The blessed manger awaits you!
