York County Shelter Programs Appeals For Thanksgiving Food Donations

Last year, the York County Shelter Programs' Food Pantry gave out 1400 Thanksgiving food boxes.  Once again there is a great need for food to share with folks who are having difficulty feeding their families during these challenging economic times. Some people who were donors a few years ago now seek help from the Shelter's Food Pantry.

The donation of turkeys or a $10.00 donation to buy a turkey and the fixings
would be greatly appreciated. The donation of cranberry sauce and gravy
is also always welcome.

Please call Martha or Sandy in the Shelter's Food Services Department
at 324-8811 or Joan at 324-1137, ext. 105.  To send a donation towards the
purchase of the Thanksgiving boxes, please mail your check to:
York County Shelter Programs, P.O. Box 820, Alfred, Maine 04002
Please note  "Turkey Fund" on the check. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Harvestfest Decorating Contest at York Beach

Merchants in the downtown of York Beach are being challenged to dress up their doorways and storefronts for Harvestfest weekend. The winning design will receive a cash prize of $200 from the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce. Nine merchants have signed up to compete in the contest. They include: Beach Funatic, Sweet Josie’s Candy Shoppe, Bill & Bob’s Jewelry Shop, Fun-O-Rama, The Goldenrod, My Winey Sister, Woody’s Brick Oven Pizza, Shelton’s Gift Shop, and Inn on the Blues. The winners will be chosen by the public who will get to vote on their favorite designs during Harvestfest at the Information booth located in the ball field at Short Sands. Voting will end at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 17. The winner will be announced at 3:30pm, just before the annual Reap the Harvest Raffle winners are chosen.

“Several storefronts have already been completed and they look fabulous,” said Cathy Goodwin, Chamber President.
