Social Media Monday - Business Page Timelines | Business
Have you seen the new Timeline for business pages?
Facebook is converting their business pages to the Timeline that we utilize on the personal profiles on March 30. Of course for those that can't wait they have released an early version.
Things to know.......
When you make the timeline live you will see an admin section at the top of the page. This is only visible to you and can be hidden when you are not utilizing it. This page will include 5 sections. A notification section so you can see who is active on your page. A message section as fans/likers will be able to send you messages through not only your personal profile but also your business page. Then you will find a section showing your new likes - remember to publicly thank all your new likes. Then you have your insights which shows interaction within your page and your followers.
Your cover photo - You can utilize any photo for your cover photo as long as it is more than 399 pixels. Right now you can move your photo up and down to fit the area. You can also customize your photo utilizing programs like Photoshop. The dimensions for the photo are 815 pixels by 315 pixels. Keep in mind you still have your profile photo so when creating your photo make sure you do not put anything important in the lower left corner.
The about section is more important than ever so make sure you fill it out completely and preview it to make sure it has all your important information present and looks good. You may want to have some friends or employees give their opinion. You only get one shot to make an impression and get your audience to reach out to you.
The timeline is set up into sections - a highlight section which share your posts, mentions and then posts from others. After the highlight section it goes into the chronological order by month and year. With the old timeline you had an option to allow or not allow others to post on your page. It doesn't look like the timeline allows you to limit who posts so you will want to keep an eye on your page activity. You can always ban folks that are spamming your page or inappropriate.
Landing pages are no longer as important as your cover page will be your wow factor. Check out the Saco, Maine Community page which has been converted to the new Timeline to see a live preview of what your page could look like. http://www.facebook.com/SacoMaineCommunity
