“Sounds of Freedom” MLK musical celebration at YCCC 

WELLS- “Sounds of Freedom”, a musical celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the on-going struggle for Civil Rights will take place Thursday, January 20 at 1 PM at York County Community College (YCCC) and is free and open to the public.  This event is free and open to the public.

YCCC students and Reverend Lillian Buckley will perform Gospel, Pop, and Folk music.  

Gospel singer Lillian Buckley is a Kittery native and resident who performs regularly in the New Hampshire Seacoast area.   A graduate of Traip Academy, Bates College, and Harvard University, Rev. Buckley is the postmaster of Barrington NH and pastor of Bow Lake Free Will Baptist Church, Strafford, NH.

The program will include individual YCCC student musicians and singers. 

In addition, YCCC students with a love of choral music who have coalesced into the YC Singers will perform.  The YC Singers are under the musical direction of Barbara Berry of Sanford.   Ms. Berry’s work supports musicians, choruses, and choirs throughout York County. 

“Sounds of Freedom” marks the 6th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. program at YCCC.   YCCC welcomes the public to join in this free event.

The celebration is coordinated by the North*Star TRIO project and the Humanities Department. “Sounds of Freedom” was funded with a mini-grant from the YCCC Foundation
