Bees - Dead!

Bees - Dead!

Sadly my bees did not make it through the winter.  It's hard to say exactly why.  Perhaps they were weak or diseased or perhaps the queen did not lay enough eggs to replace their numbers.  Maybe they just couldn't generate enough heat?  It's a major blow to me but I think I will try again!

Brain Injury: From Surviving to Thriving

Hilary Zayed had to reinvent herself after she fell off her horse several years ago and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She used to be an elementary school teacher, but her brain can no longer handle the sensory input — bells ringing, children walking and talking, all the hub bub that normally happens in an elementary school. So, teaching is out for Hilary, along with some other things that were an integral part of her life. "I was a horseback rider, that's out," she says. "The neurologist says one more fall, it will kill me. I was a flute player and now can't stand the sound. Gone.

Kittery memorial honors USS Thresher victims

KITTERY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Fifty years after the sinking of the USS Thresher, considered to be the world's worst submarine disaster, hundreds gathered in Kittery to dedicate a memorial to the 129 victims.

One foot for each man lost in the accident, a 129 foot flag pole now stands in the center of the Kittery Memorial Circle on Route 1.

Built in Kittery's Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the USS Thresher sank in 1963 while completing dive trials 220 miles east of Boston.

A leaky pipe sprayed water on the ship's electrical grid, shutting down the ship's reactor and causing it to sink and implode in 8,400 feet of water. All 129 men on board were lost.

After the accident on the Thresher, the US Navy improved submarine safety measures, implementing a new SUBSAFE program.
