YORK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Firefighters believe lightning struck a two-story barn on Cider Hill Road, starting a three alarm fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene at around 6:30 Tuesday evening and found the barn, which was only built about a year ago, fully engulfed in flames. The barn is used to board horses. There were horses inside when the fire started, but neighbors and firefighters managed to get them all out safely.

The barn is adjacent to a home, and firefighters say if the fire had not been knocked down quickly, it could have easily spread. York Fire Chief Chris Balentine says the strong storm kept emergency crews busy.
